Fat Transfer

Fat transfer, also known as autologous fat transfer, fat grafting, or lipofilling, is a cosmetic procedure where a plastic surgeon takes fat from one part of your body and injects it into another area to enhance or rejuvenate your appearance.

Here's a quick overview:

  • Procedure: Fat is typically harvested from areas like the belly, hips, or thighs using liposuction. The fat is then purified and injected into the desired area, such as the face, breasts, or buttocks1.

  • Benefits: It can add natural-looking volume, create a more youthful appearance, and even repair scars.

  • Results: The results are generally permanent, though not all fat cells survive the transfer, so some volume may be lost over time.

  • Candidates: Ideal candidates are close to their ideal weight, in good health, and have realistic expectations

                               Frequently Asked Questions

WHERE CAN FAT BE TAKEN FROM?

Really anywhere, but most often it will come from your abdomen, flanks, or outer thighs

CAN I USE OTHER PEOPLE'S FAT?

No. Only your own fat will for a blood supply and live within your body.

CAN I COMBINE A FAT TRANSFER PROCEDURE WITH MY LIPOSUCTION?

Absolutely! We have quite a few patients who combine both of these procedures. It provides cost savings, and we will already have your fat to use!

IS THE PROCEDURE PAINFUL?

Pain, in most cases, should be minimal. Discomfort (in the areas where fat is removed, and injected) should only be short term and can be managed with oral medication.

WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN AUTOLOGOUS FAT TRANSFER, FAT GRAFTING, AND MICROLIPOINJECTION?

These terms all refer to the same procedure. They all involve removing fat from an area of the body, purifying it, and injecting into another area of the body.

SHOULD I DO FAT TRANSFER, OR DERMAL FILLERS?

The answer, as with most procedures, is 'it depends'. In some cases a filler like Juvederm or Restylane can have better results than a fat transfer. The best option is to schedule a free consultation with our doctor so he can determine what is best for you specifically.

HOW LONG WILL THE RESULTS LAST?

There is no definite length to the amount of time that the benefits of a fat transfer will last. Over the course of time, a portion of the injected fat will be reabsorbed and dispersed by the body. The other portion will remain in place and can be permanent.
